Standard Chartered Launches Institutional Spot Crypto Trading in UAE

  • On Thursday, Standard Chartered launched institutional spot Bitcoin and Ether trading in the United Arab Emirates, becoming the first Global Systemically Important Bank to offer the service in the Gulf country.
  • The bank previously established digital asset infrastructure in the UAE, launching custody services in September 2024 and partnering with CoinMENA in June to support fiat on- and off-ramps.
  • Eligible institutional clients can access deliverable Bitcoin and Ether spot trading through Standard Chartered's electronic trading channels integrated into existing foreign exchange interfaces.
  • Other firms are also expanding regionally: Capital.com secured a virtual-asset license from the Capital Market Authority in August, while Revolut received in-principle approval from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority in July.
  • This expansion follows Standard Chartered's initial institutional spot trading launch in the United Kingdom in July 2025, extending the bank's regulated crypto asset offering across regions.
