No. 18 Penn State Kicks Off Matt Campbell Era Against Marshall
Matt Campbell debuts as Penn State coach, leading a significantly remade roster of 62 new players and 40 transfers from Iowa State, marking the start of a new era.
On Saturday, Penn State hosts the Marshall Thundering Herd at Beaver Stadium, marking head coach Matt Campbell's official debut and the start of the 140th season of Nittany Lions football.
Campbell significantly remade the program's roster this offseason, signing 62 new players to bolster depth. The group includes 40 transfers, with 24 arriving from Campbell's former team, Iowa State.
Penn State senior quarterback Rocco Becht leads with 26 career wins, while the Thundering Herd counter with dual-threat quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson, who threw for 2,043 yards and rushed for 660 yards last season.
Live coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. on FS1 for the Beaver Stadium Stripe Out, where Penn State enters as a 23.5-point favorite over Marshall.
"First games are challenging no matter if you've been there for 10 years or this is your first time around," Campbell said. The Nittany Lions visit Temple on September 12.
