Stadler Unveils World’s First Narrow-Gauge Hydrogen Train for Italy’s Regional Railways
Stadler has unveiled the world’s first narrow-gauge hydrogen train for operators in Sardinia, Calabria and Sicily, delivering zero-emission rail travel and cutting CO₂ emissions by more than 2,100 tonnes annually.
Train manufacturer Stadler and carrier SBB Cargo Switzerland presented the first EURO DuFour, a new electric locomotive for European freight transport, during InnoTrans 2026 in Berlin.
At InnoTrans 2026, Stadler showcased new railway vehicles for various applications. The Euro DuFour locomotive, developed for SBB Cargo, the hydrogen-powered narrow-gauge trains produced for Sardinia and different regions of Italy, and the Flirt Nordic Express trains ordered for Norway were among the highlights of the fair.
