Stabbing, drugs, shootings at Vancouver strip club. Owner says he’s unfairly targeted
The court said reopening the club would pose a clear danger after 94 police calls and violent incidents over two years.
The Supreme Court upheld the liquor license revocation for the Gallery Show Lounge Strip in Vancouver, ruling the club owned by Anthony Pomonis would "present a clear danger" if reopened.
Police reported 94 calls to The Vancouver Police Department during the club's two years of operation, including incidents involving a homicide, stabbing, and shooting in which two people were shot.
Regulators cited an "established pattern of violent incidents," inaccurate financial information, and alleged money laundering involving US$1 bills offered to tip performers, alongside drug trafficking charges against Pomonis and a Gallery employee.
Although drug trafficking charges against Pomonis were stayed, The Public Prosecution Service of Canada said it would be "inappropriate" to provide reasons because "they are not in the public record."
Pomonis now plans to open a new club in Calgary, Alberta, saying he brought "75 of the biggest hip hop artists in the world in the last five years" to Gallery.
