St. Cloud couple celebrates 80 (yes, 80!) years of marriage
The Eastmans’ milestone reflects a rare marriage that survived World War II separation, cancer and five generations of family life.
On Saturday, June 6, Kermit Eastman and Betty Eastman celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary at Talamore Senior Living in St. Cloud, surrounded by family and memories from eight decades together.
The Eastmans met in Thief River Falls when Kermit lived across the street; they married June 6, 1946, after he returned from Navy service aboard the USS Mullany during World War II.
Betty celebrated her 99th birthday on Friday, June 12, following Kermit's 99th birthday in March. For lasting marriage, Betty advised, "Be honest and don't keep secrets."
The couple moved into Talamore Senior Living before Thanksgiving, adjusting to relying on others. Their daughter, Vicki Landwehr, noted they remain independent despite this significant life change.
While 80 years of marriage remains rare, California residents Mel and Jennifer McMullen also celebrated their 80th anniversary last month, and Miami residents Lyle and Eleanor Gittens previously marked their 83rd anniversary.
