Rise in coconut prices a continuation of a global phenomenon dating back to 2020
The steep rise in the price of coconut was not a sudden phenomenon but a continuation of what the sector has been experiencing since around 2020 with the outbreak of the pandemic, said a senior official with the Coconut Development Board (CDB).

ECONOMYNEXT – The average price for a nut slid 4.7 percent to a seven-month low of 114.77 rupees at a weekly auction, Coconut Development Authority data showed. This was the lowest since November 28 when a nut cost 109.61 rupees. At the weekly auction in Colombo, the highest price for a nut fell to 130 rupees from 139 rupees last week, while lowest fell to 102 rupees from 109 rupees.
