Springfield council OKs controversial grant despite conflict of interest accusation

SPRINGFIELD — A project to turn the former Brightwood School into affordable apartments will move forward with a $100,000 city grant after a four-month controversy over the funding.The vote last week ends the political clamor sparked when City Councilor Justin Hurst accused City Clerk Gladys Oyola-Lopez of having a conflict of interest and possibly corrupting the use of the funding.
