Spotify Offers Advance Concert Tickets to Premium Users
Eligible U.S. fans aged 18 and older will get email and in-app alerts, and Spotify said it has facilitated over $1.5 billion in ticket sales.
On Thursday, Spotify announced its new 'Reserved' feature, which identifies an artist's most engaged listeners and reserves two seats for them at shows, aiming to ensure 'more tickets will go straight to fans instead of scalpers.'
Citing the stress of modern ticket buying, Spotify said, 'Getting concert tickets today can feel like a race you're set up to lose.' The platform aims to bypass bots and scalpers dominating the current market.
To qualify, Spotify Premium subscribers aged 18 or older must stream and share an artist's music actively. The platform monitors activity to confirm users are 'real human fans' and not bots, granting them a dedicated purchase window.
Not every eligible fan is guaranteed an offer, as superfans outnumber available seats on tours. Spotify acknowledged that availability varies by artist, tour, and location, meaning some users won't receive priority access.
Beginning this summer, the feature will expand to more tours of all sizes, 'including many of the most sought-after shows on the road.' This broader investment in live music aims to strengthen artist-fan relationships.
