ICE Are No Longer Running Ads on Spotify
Spotify ended ICE recruitment ads after widespread criticism and a boycott campaign by groups including Indivisible, linked to a $30 billion U.S. government hiring plan for 10,000 officers.
- On Wednesday, Spotify, the streaming service, confirmed to Variety that recruitment ads for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are no longer running, following a fatal Minneapolis shooting.
- The ads were part of a U.S. government recruitment campaign across major platforms, tied to the Trump administration’s $30 billion investment to hire at least 10,000 deportation officers by the end of 2025.
- On the ad-supported free plan, Spotify played ICE ads offering $50,000 signing bonuses, while Rolling Stone reported payments of $3,000,000 to Google and YouTube within a $100 million strategy.
- Artists and users rallied against the ads, with Indivisible Project, Working Families, and 50501 Movement leading boycotts and last month’s Spotify Unwrapped campaign urging cancellations by Spotify subscribers.
- A company spokesperson said the campaign concluded and the ads "ended on most platforms and channels, including Spotify, at the end of last year," while Spotify has not ruled out similar future ads.
