Marching in Memory: Honoring Kargil Heroes Through Padyatra
DRASS, KARGIL DISTRICT, JAMMU AND KASHMIR, INDIA, JUL 26 – The padyatra includes over 1,000 youth volunteers, veterans, and families honoring fallen soldiers with a plantation drive and tributes under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.
- Ahead of the 26th anniversary, Mandaviya will lead the Kargil Vijay Diwas Padyatra, in Drass, Kargil district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday.
- This year marks the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating India's victory in `Operation Vijay ` during the 1999 conflict, as the army announced victory after a nearly three-month battle.
- Backed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the padyatra will feature over 1,000 youth volunteers, veterans, armed forces personnel, families of fallen soldiers and civil society members.
- Following the march, participants will proceed to the Kargil War Memorial to lay wreaths and offer homage to soldiers, while Mandaviya will felicitate 26 women bikers of the Shakti Udgosh Foundation.
- In a nod to environmental sustainability, participants will plant trees under the `Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam` campaign, as part of the Viksit Bharat Padyatras initiative aimed at fostering national pride and civic engagement.
