No bus or metros this Saturday in Montreal because of transit strike
Around 4,500 transit workers strike for better schedules, wage increases, and against outsourcing, disrupting services through Nov. 28 with limited rush-hour operations, union says.
- On Nov. 1, 2025, Montreal's regular bus and Metro service was halted as roughly 4,500 bus drivers, Metro operators and other station employees joined the union's first strike in 38 years.
- The union says its demands center on schedules and unpaid work as maintenance workers with the Syndicat du Transport de Montréal launched a month-long strike while the union's 24-hour walkout awaits a negotiations update at 11 a.m.
- The disruption coincides with major sporting events including Montreal Alouettes, Laval Rocket and Montreal Canadiens games, while Bixi Montréal boosts service and Communauto and Uber expand car-sharing options.
- STM says reduced service will continue for the next 7 days, with adapted transit operating and buses and Metro limited to rush-hour hours, and monthly STM passes can be refunded before the first of the month.
- Quebec's labour tribunal framed its decision by saying it cannot weigh voting rights against strike rights and ruled halting transit for 24 hours does not threaten public safety; Metro stations will close gradually, and the maintenance strike includes municipal election day, Sunday.
