AG Identifies Man Armed with Spear, Fatally Shot by Police
- A 23-year-old man attacked his 26-year-old brother with a spear at a residence on Wilbur Court in Columbia on Monday evening.
- The younger brother then fled the residence armed with a 30-inch double-edged spear, leading police to respond around 7:30 p.m.
- Police located the suspect standing on Oakland Mills Road, who refused commands to relinquish his spear and moved toward an officer, leading to the officer fatally shooting him.
- The individual was declared dead at the location, while the person who had been stabbed was transported to Shock Trauma in critical condition; Howard County Police stated that the officer had no choice but to discharge his weapon.
- The investigation into the shooting incident involving a police officer and a suspect armed with a spear is now being conducted by the Independent Investigations Division within the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.
