The European Commission urged Meta this Thursday to offer “permanent” commitments to protect minors in the European Union (EU), unlike the judicial agreement reached this week by the company in the United States, which contemplates limited protections over time.

The petition refers to the out-of-court agreement reached this Wednesday by the parent company of Facebook and Instagram with 52 U.S. Attorneys General, which contemplates several protections, but limited in time.
Following the settlement reached by Meta in the United States, the European Commission is demanding equivalent protections for minors and is keeping Instagram and Facebook under investigation.
Meta has signed an agreement in the United States which provides for a blocking of Instagram and Facebook for minors. Two hours a day, no access after midnight and no notification during the courses, the European Union invites Mark Zuckerberg's company to "protect our children".
