The health and animal production authorities have confirmed the presence of the subtype H5N1 of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (IAAP) in a turkey fattening farm located 100 metres from the holding previously confirmed on 18 July in Ahlones (Badajoz).

The preventive slaughter of about 5,000 turkeys had been carried out on this farm since last week, according to the update report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), consulted by Efeagro. Last week’s outbreak is the first case in a farm that has been in Spain for almost two and a half years.
