SpaceX’s Starlink 6-78 mission launched nearly 30 satellites, marking the 100th orbital launch from Florida in 2025 and breaking the previous record of 93, officials said.
- On Thursday, SpaceX launched the Starlink 6-78 mission from Kennedy Space Center’s 39A, marking Florida’s 100th orbital launch this year with 29 satellites on Falcon 9.
- Earlier this month, missions by the three major launch companies surpassed last year’s record of 93 liftoffs, with SpaceX accounting for 92 flights and 91 percent of Florida launches.
- The flight used Falcon 9 first‑stage booster B1080, and after separation the first stage aimed to land on droneship Just Read the Instructions about eight minutes and 365 miles downrange; Starlink satellites were scheduled to deploy about one hour and five minutes after launch.
- The mission’s payload will join a constellation already numbering over 9,000 satellites, with Space Launch Delta 45 supporting live coverage about an hour before liftoff and the 45th Weather Squadron forecasting about a 95% chance of good conditions.
- A Space Florida study projects as many as 1,250 annual launches on the Space Coast, while the Federal Aviation Administration approved increasing SLC‑40’s launch limit to 120, and Kennedy Space Center’s 39‑A awaits approval to raise its limit to 36.
