MDA SPACE SATELLITES FOR GLOBALSTAR SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED
The satellites will undergo in-orbit tests as nine more remain in final integration for Globalstar’s 17-satellite replenishment program, MDA Space said.
- On Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched eight Globalstar replenishment satellites from Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 9:12 p.m. ET, marking the start of the commissioning phase.
- The deployment supports a 17-satellite replenishment program for Globalstar's existing low Earth orbit constellation, with nine additional satellites remaining in final integration stages.
- MDA Space Ltd. CEO Mike Greenley said the program marks a "major transformation in our design and high-volume satellite production process," enabling faster development and manufacturing at the company's new facility.
- Following deployment from Space Launch Complex 40, the eight satellites have entered the commissioning phase and will undergo in-orbit testing before entering operational service for direct-to-device communications.
- MDA Space, a global leader with more than 450 missions, is ramping production capacity at its new manufacturing facility to meet increasing demand as the $143 million 17-satellite constellation nears completion.
