- On Tuesday, African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore withdrew his plan to subpoena Department of State Services Director-General Adeola Ajayi as a defense witness in his defamation trial.
- Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi made a surprise appearance for the prosecution, arguing the subpoena was unnecessary because the relevant letter asking Sowore to retract posts calling President Bola Tinubu a "criminal" was already admitted in evidence twice.
- Prosecutors noted that Uwem Davies, Principal Officer for General Services at the DSS, had testified on July 22 regarding the letter, confirming he wrote it as directed by his employer.
- Sowore's lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, confirmed the defense was also unable to serve a subpoena on presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, prompting Judge Muhammed Umar to adjourn the trial until August 3, 2026.
- Sowore faces criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and incitement charges stemming from social media posts made last year, with these proceedings continuing to test boundaries of political expression in Nigeria.
