SOUTHWEST AIRLINES TO OPEN NEW CREW BASE FOR PILOTS AND FLIGHT ATTENDANTS AT AUSTIN BERGSTROM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (AUS)
Southwest Airlines will triple its local workforce and create 2,000 new jobs by mid-2027, supported by a $5.5 million city incentive and public benefits programs.
- On Dec. 12, Southwest Airlines Co. announced a new Crew Base at Austin Bergstrom International Airport that will open in March 2026, creating over 2,000 jobs.
- Southwest Airlines said it is relocating its command center and positioning itself as an anchor tenant for future Concourse B to support long-term growth at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, as part of a strategic expansion.
- The new base will begin with about 335 pilots and 650 flight attendants, retain more than 800 current ABIA positions, and offer new jobs averaging $180,000 pay plus $22.05 hourly and benefits.
- The City of Austin will disburse a $5.5 million incentive after new jobs are added, and the State of Texas will contribute a $14 million grant, with Bob Jordan stating `This investment demonstrates our commitment to Austin.'
- Next March Southwest will begin new nonstop service to Fort Myers, Palm Springs and Steamboat Springs , Colo., raising Austin's nonstop destinations to 53 and adding a recurring flight-attendant training facility.
