The third intake drew more than 70 applications, and the program will support digital permitting and standardized housing designs, officials said.
- On Monday, the provincial government announced $9 million in funding for 56 local governments across British Columbia through the Local Government Development Approvals Program to streamline housing approvals.
- Administered by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities , the third intake of the program received more than 70 applications seeking to help communities improve development-approval processes and increase housing supply.
- Local governments are digitizing permitting systems and adopting standardized housing designs. The City of Burnaby is implementing targeted approvals improvements, while the District of Lake Country is reviewing zoning bylaws to support modern construction methods.
- UBCM President Cori Ramsay said "getting the homes British Columbians need approved requires all orders of government and industry to work together." Minister of State for Local Governments and Rural Communities Brittny Anderson noted more than 99,000 homes are underway.
- Additional approvals are anticipated soon following the 2026 intake. Abbotsford, which completed 866 new housing units from October 2024 to September 2025, has a five-year goal of 7,240 units, demonstrating the funding's importance for meeting provincial housing targets.
