‘South Park’ writer purchases Trump-Kennedy Center web addresses, plans parody sites
Comedian Toby Morton acquired trumpkennedycenter.org and .com to satirize the Kennedy Center renaming after President Trump, owning about 50 parody domains in total.
- On Thursday afternoon the Kennedy Center board voted to rename the institution to include President Donald J. Trump, and by Friday morning construction workers began adding his name to the exterior.
- Months earlier, Toby Morton purchased trumpkennedycenter.org and trumpkennedycenter.com months ago after following the takeover news, owning about 50 domains to build satirical sites rather than resell them.
- Morton typically mimics legitimate political pages before satire appears, as with his Nancy Mace, U.S. representative, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene examples, and his fake Stefanik site used fabricated headlines while his Trump–Kennedy websites have not gone live.
- Morton says he hasn't been contacted by Trumpworld and has received only lawyer inquiries while the Kennedy Center website was relabeled 'Trump Kennedy Center', prompting some Democrats to call for Congress approval.
- There is talk that Trump might affix his name to other landmarks, including the soon-to-be finished Washington Commanders stadium, while Morton’s forthcoming site critiques Trump’s branding and cultural impact.
