South Korea trade giant POSCO puts receivables onchain in tokenization test with LG
POSCO International said the test uses real trade data and could shorten payment settlement while giving banks a shared record of receivables.
- POSCO International has begun tokenizing trade receivables on the Injective blockchain in a pilot with technology partner LG CNS, aiming to streamline commercial payments between its global subsidiaries.
- Current trade finance processes require buyers, sellers, and banks to track invoices separately across independent systems, often delaying cash release by days before settlement.
- Using real trade data rather than simulations, the pilot validates AI-based document processing and compliance rules. "This PoC is significant in that it validated the applicability of AI and blockchain technology based on real trade data and processes," a POSCO International spokesperson said.
- The test successfully completed a transfer in about seven minutes, focusing on business processes between approved parties rather than public trading. The companies have not yet disclosed processing savings or opened the system to outside investors.
- POSCO plans to consider live production later this year as the tokenized asset market grows rapidly. Citi estimates the market could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030, positioning trade finance as a key use case.
