A total of 68 people drowned in Iceland between 2013 and 2023, and globally, an average of thirty people drown every hour. This is according to representatives of the Red Cross, who are urging people to keep their eyes open this summer and pay special attention to children who can drown in just thirty seconds. Drowning can be silent and does not have to be accompanied by screaming or gasping.
