South Carolina Hiring Coastal Carolina’s Kevin Schnall as Head Baseball Coach
Schnall went 93-36 in two seasons at Coastal Carolina and led the Chanticleers to a 2025 national runner-up finish.
On Tuesday, sources confirmed that South Carolina is hiring Coastal Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall to lead the Gamecocks baseball program, pending Board of Trustees approval.
The university sought a new leader after parting ways with former head coach Paul Mainieri mid-season, making Schnall a top target for athletic director Jeremiah Donati.
During his two seasons as head coach at Coastal, Schnall compiled a 93-36 record and guided the team to the 2025 College World Series finals, earning Baseball America National Coach of the Year honors.
Schnall faces an immediate roster rebuild, as 20 players have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal since June 1 and only 18 players are currently committed for next season.
Tasked with restoring the program's former glory, Schnall becomes the Gamecocks' fourth head coach in four years, aiming to reverse a trend of missing six of the past 11 NCAA Tournaments.
