- Following the Joint Intelligence Board Meeting on 18 May 2026, chaired by the National Security Adviser, security and intelligence agencies conducted a comprehensive review to assess security implications and determine necessary response measures.
- To forestall any breakdown of law and order, the Nigeria Police Force strengthened security measures and increased surveillance around critical national assets and foreign missions. Adequate deployments ensure protection of lives and property.
- Acts of retaliation, violence, or property destruction against South African interests are illegal and will not be tolerated. Consequently, any attempt to target diplomatic facilities will be regarded as a criminal offence addressed according to existing laws.
- The Federal Government actively engages stakeholders through diplomatic channels to resolve the situation peacefully, while the Force cautioned the public against disseminating unverified or inflammatory information on social media that could heighten tensions.
