Sound Transit's Pinehurst Station to Open Sept. 30, 5 Years Ahead of Schedule
Sound Transit expects 2,600 to 4,200 daily boardings at the in-fill stop, which opens without parking and adds Route 77 bus access.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Sound Transit opened Pinehurst Station in North Seattle, completing the project five years ahead of the 2031 schedule promised to voters under the 2016 ST3 tax measure.
Sound Transit accelerated construction by integrating Pinehurst with the Lynnwood Link extension, though the project budget climbed to $240 million from an initial $72 million estimate as the board prioritized early delivery.
Unlike suburban stations, Pinehurst Station features no commuter parking garage, relying instead on walkable access and King County Metro Route 77, which provides direct bus connectivity between Bitter Lake, Pinehurst, and the University District.
Agency projections estimate 2,600 to 4,200 daily boardings once the system is fully built out, though early data models previously suggested as few as 1,100 daily passengers without significant neighborhood development.
To boost ridership, the Seattle City Council recently passed a land-use plan promoting residential buildings five to eight stories high near Pinehurst Station to address ongoing housing shortages.
