Waerenskjold Wins Fastest Ever Tour De France Stage
Waerenskjold held off late charges to give Uno-X Mobility its second Tour stage win and set the race’s fastest road stage at 50.91 kph.
- On Wednesday, Norwegian Soren Waerenskjold won the 11th stage of the Tour in Nevers, France, completing the fastest road stage in the 113 editions of the Tour.
- A four-man breakaway departed Vichy early, but the peloton limited their lead to 1min 40sec as Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe was dropped on a climb with around 40km remaining.
- Cees Bol launched a disjointed sprint, but Waerenskjold countered with a long-range sprint, holding off late challenges from Olav Kooij and Jasper Philipsen to secure victory.
- The Norwegian Uno-X Mobility team celebrated its second Tour stage win in its first year as a World Tour outfit, following earlier success with Torstein Traeen in the yellow jersey.
- Reigning champion Tadej Pogacar finished safely in the peloton, retaining an overall lead of more than three and a half minutes over Jonas Vingegaard.
