Sophia Space Selects Apex to Power RealTime Computing in Orbit
The 2027 demo mission will show Sophia Space’s TILE modules on Apex’s Nova bus as demand grows for faster in-orbit data processing.
On Tuesday, Sophia Space, Inc. announced it selected Apex to supply a satellite bus for a 2027 demonstration mission bringing real-time edge computing to enterprise, government, and defense customers.
The partnership supports Sophia Space's TILE compute modules, which enable autonomous data processing in orbit and close a critical gap in the emerging space-based edge computing market.
Sophia Space CEO and Co-Founder Rob DeMillo called the partnership a "force multiplier" for orbital computing, while Apex CoFounder & CEO Ian Cinnamon noted their Nova platform helps teams move to operational spacecraft faster.
With Apex as a collaborator, satellites become "autonomous computing hubs" capable of acting on data the moment it is generated, according to Leon Alkalai, CTO and Founder of Sophia Space.
Founded in 2022 by Ian Cinnamon and Max Benassi, Apex manufactures scalable spacecraft solutions, positioning the company to accelerate space innovation through high-rate manufacturing of reliable platforms for critical constellations.
