Sony Expands Ownership of Classic ‘Peanuts’ Brand
- Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment disclosed Thursday they signed a definitive agreement to acquire WildBrain's 41% stake, giving Sony indirect ownership of 80% of Peanuts Holdings LLC.
- Sony Music Entertainment will lead management of Peanuts Holdings LLC with SPE, and Sony said it will leverage the Sony Group's global network to grow the Peanuts brand.
- Sony will pay CAN $630 million to acquire WildBrain's 39% stake, or roughly $457 million, with other filings reporting about $460 million.
- The deal is subject to closing conditions including regulatory approvals, and once closed, Peanuts Holdings LLC will become a consolidated Sony Group subsidiary while WildBrain CPLG remains exclusive licensing agent.
- With the Schulz family retaining a 20% stake, Sony said WildBrain will continue as production and licensing partner and Apple TV ties were recently renewed through 2030.
