Solana Inflation Cut Clears Vote with 67% Support
Validators approved a faster disinflation schedule and rejected a fee model that would have lifted daily SOL burns to as much as $800,000.
- On Friday, Solana validators approved the 'Double Disinflation' proposal, SGP-0002, with 67% support, accelerating the network's annual SOL issuance decline from 15% to 30%.
- The vote marked Solana's first network-wide governance exercise, presenting three proposals to validators regarding blockchain decision-making and token economics, including SGP-0001, which established the network's constitution.
- "After 500 calls in the past few hours, we got all the votes in the last seconds and passed the disinflation proposal by a literal hair," Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz wrote, as Kraken 2 switched its vote to support.
- While the constitution proposal passed easily, voters rejected SGP-0003, the Resource and Inclusion Fee proposal, which reached 53.9% support but fell short of the required two-thirds majority.
- US-Listed Solana ETFs have attracted roughly $1.7 billion in cumulative net inflows, while the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF recently surpassed $1 billion in assets, signaling sustained institutional demand.
