The Socialist International (IS) expressed its deep concern at the recent announcements and constitutional changes in Nicaragua that further restrict political pluralism and democratic rights in the country. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the world organization of Social Democratic, Socialist and Labour parties particularly criticized President Daniel Ortega’s statement that no new elections will be held.
