Former Italy Coach Gattuso Joins Lazio as Manager
On Tuesday, Lazio appointed former Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso as head coach, marking his return to club management nearly three months after his national team tenure ended in World Cup qualification failure.
Gattuso replaces Maurizio Sarri, who terminated his contract last month after Lazio finished ninth in the Italian Cup final loss to Inter Milan, while fans boycotted matches protesting owner Claudio Lotito.
The 48-year-old was a star player, winning two Champions League titles in 2003 and 2007, though his only silverware as a coach remains the Italian Cup won with Napoli in 2020.
Italian media report that Gattuso has signed a two-year deal with the club, earning an annual net salary of $1.7 million, with Lazio expressing confidence in his professionalism and determination.
Italy remains without a permanent manager following Gattuso's departure, as reports link former coach Roberto Mancini, who led the team to the European Championship in 2020, with a potential return.
The World Cup is in full swing, but there is also plenty of transfer news. Which players and coaches are making the move? Stay up to date on all developments here.
