By Friday, an average of 40 centimeters of snow had fallen across most of Austria, causing severe disruptions. In addition to our western neighbor and western Hungary, the cyclone also caused problems in Germany and Slovenia.

Winter weather caused major problems on Friday, and in Linz, a snowplow accident resulted in one fatality. Operations at Vienna Airport in Schwechat were temporarily suspended. Airport spokesman Peter Kleemann announced that some takeoffs were expected to resume at noon, with landings following at 1 p.m. In Styria, around 30,000 households were without power on Friday morning. Authorities issued an "AT Alert" for several districts.
