SNAP enrollment has plummeted in the Houston area amid a federal funding cut and expanded work requirements

Rice University researchers found Houston-area SNAP enrollment fell 18% as Texas added work rules and cut funding, leaving about 155,000 fewer eligible residents.

Compared to last year, about 155,000 fewer people in the region are eligible for food stamps, according to Rice University’s Kinder Institute.
