190 Parcels on Evacuation Alert in B.C. Interior Due to Snaking River Wildfire

CARIBOO, BRITISH COLUMBIA, AUG 2 – The Snaking River wildfire has expanded rapidly to 624 hectares with 68 firefighters and aerial support actively working to contain it, BC Wildfire Service said.

  • According to BC Wildfire Service on Aug. 1, the Snaking River wildfire remains at 300 hectares, 65 kilometres west of Quesnel, with decreased fire behaviour.
  • BC Wildfire Service says the wildfire is experiencing Rank 1 and 2 fire behaviour, meaning it's moving at a slow rate, with temperatures forecast to reach 28 C on Saturday.
  • BCWS deployed 68 firefighters, seven heavy equipment pieces, and helicopters to battle the wildfire, establishing control lines and using direct attack methods overnight and into Friday.
  • Amid the alert, BCWS said no structures are threatened, but 71 properties remain under evacuation alert with a structure protection crew on scene.
  • Building on Friday's focus, heavy equipment crews, having worked through Friday night, made control lines on the fire's flanks and continued direct attack along the eastern flank of the 5100 Road.
