SMU’s 1st ACC meeting vs. No. 10 Miami comes after end of Mustangs’ 20-game conference win streak
SMU faces top-10 Miami with a strong defense after ending a 20-game conference win streak, aiming to rebound following a narrow loss, coach Lashlee said.
- On Saturday, SMU Mustangs football team faces No. 10 Miami Hurricanes football team in Dallas after their 20-game conference winning streak since 2022 ended.
- Coaches blamed the loss on offensive lapses and injuries, calling it the worst offensive performance since Rhett Lashlee's tenure began, while noting Kevin Jennings has been playing hurt but that was no excuse last week.
- Defensively, the Miami Hurricanes rank at the top of the ACC, allowing only 14.1 points and 270 total yards per game, and surrendered 99 points in seven games.
- Miami is making its first trip out of Florida this season, after playing only one road game Oct. 4; the Hurricanes return home to face Syracuse and North Carolina State before road trips to Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh.
- Historically and tactically, this game carries added meaning for SMU, whose 17-2 home record and Lashlee's 2020-21 Miami tenure frame the challenge of facing a top-ranked team.
