Captain's Knock by De Silva Rallies Sri Lanka on Day 1 Against West Indies
De Silva’s 120 anchored a recovery after Sri Lanka slipped to 42-3, with Chandimal and Dinusha adding key stands against West Indies pace.
On Thursday, Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva scored his 13th Test century, guiding the tourists to 308 all out at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on the opening day.
Sent in to bat on a seamer-friendly surface, Sri Lanka stumbled to 42-3 as West Indies bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach exploited early movement with the new ball.
Dhananjaya stabilized the innings through partnerships with Dinesh Chandimal, who contributed 54 in a 68-run stand, and Sonal Dinusha, who scored 43 during a 99-run sixth-wicket partnership.
West Indies wicketkeeper Joshua da Silva endured a difficult return, dropping three chances, while seam bowler Justin Greaves took 3-39 to help limit the total.
Openers John Campbell and Brandon King finished the day at 0-0 for West Indies, with both teams seeking their first win in the World Test Championship.
