Kyoto Restaurant’s Riverside Platform Collapses; 2 Fall into River but Successfully Climb Out
KYOTO — An employee of a restaurant near the Kibune River in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, made an emergency call to report that “three or four men and women” had fallen into the water and were about to be swept away, at around 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday.
At around 11:10 a.m. on the 12th, an employee at a restaurant near Kifune Shrine in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, called 119, reporting that "the riverbed collapsed and several men and women fell into the river." According to the Kyoto City Fire Department, six men and women fell into the river, including a woman in her 70s who was unable to reach the shore and a man in his 40s who rescued her.
At around 11:10 a.m. on the 12th, an employee at a restaurant along the Kifune River in Kurama Kifune-cho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, called 119 to report that the riverbed had collapsed. According to the Kyoto City Fire Department, two customers, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 70s, had fallen into the river, but both appeared to have managed to get to shore on their own.
