Six more die of hunger in Gaza as trucks reach border for rare fuel delivery
GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE, AUG 3 – The Gaza health ministry reports 175 starvation deaths since October 2023 amid fuel shortages limiting hospital services and aid truck deliveries, officials said.
- In a rare update, Egypt’s state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV reported that two trucks carrying 107 tons of diesel were set to enter Gaza, as six more people died of starvation and malnutrition over the past 24 hours.
- Amid the blockade, Israel has restricted aid since March, leaving fuel shipments rare and dozens have died of malnutrition in Gaza in recent weeks, Gaza’s health ministry said.
- On July 29, IPC experts indicated that the worst-case famine scenario is unfolding in Gaza, with two of three Phase 5 thresholds reached.
- COGAT reported four U.N. fuel tankers entered Gaza, but fuel shortages have severely impaired hospital services, forcing treatment of only critical cases, Gaza’s health ministry said.
- Aid agencies stress that, as of July 28, the death toll from starvation rose to over 100, urging all crossings to be opened and flooding Gaza with assistance.
