- Sunday morning around 10.30 am, six migrant workers from Odisha were killed by a rockfall at Satyakrishna Granite Quarry near Ballikurava in Bapatla district.
- Bapatla District Collector J. Venkata Murali and Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi said safety precautions were inadequate, and quarry management allegedly claimed lightning caused deaths, but forensic teams found no seismic activity.
- Rescue teams have recovered four bodies and are searching for two others still trapped, while eight critically injured were admitted to a hospital at Narasaraopeta.
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu ordered a thorough investigation and told officials, `I spoke with officials, instructed them to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured, and ordered a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident` in a release.
- Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has launched a safety violations probe at the Bapatla quarry, with local residents urging stricter safety measures amid frequent accidents.
