JUST IN: One Dead, Four Rescued As Four Storey Building Collapses In Enugu
Officials said four workers were rescued and one body recovered after the under-construction hotel collapsed, with the cause still under investigation.
- On Sunday, a four-storey hotel building under construction collapsed in the Independence Layout area of Enugu State, leaving one person dead and four others injured.
- The Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency had previously sealed the site after discovering integrity issues and non-compliance with its 2021 approval, issuing a "stop work order" six months prior.
- According to Enugu State Fire Service Director Okwudiri Oha, six people were reportedly sleeping at the site when the structure fell at about 5 a.m., though one person escaped before the incident.
- Rescuers from the National Emergency Management Agency , the Red Cross, and the State Emergency Authority pulled four survivors from the rubble, now receiving treatment at the Enugu State Teaching Hospital.
- ECTDA Chairman Uche Anya referred the property owner's representative to police for investigation, while SEMA Executive Secretary Chinasa Mbah confirmed continued excavation to ensure no additional survivors remain.
