- Eight workers are critically injured with 60 per cent burn injuries, while a second blast during rescue operations injured 12 others, including eight police.
- Kerala Health Minister Veena George called the incident "deeply distressing," while Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Saddened to hear about the loss of lives," and mass casualty protocols were activated at the Medical College.
- The incident is one of the deadliest industrial disasters in the region in recent years, occurring shortly after a blast in Tamil Nadu claimed 25 lives, as specialist medical teams from across Kerala arrive to assist.
