Ex-CM Chandrasekhar Rao Summoned to Appear Before SIT in Phone Tapping Case
The SIT summoned KCR to record his statement on allegations of unauthorized phone tapping of around 6,000 phones during his BRS government, with several leaders already questioned.
- On January 29, the Special Investigation Team issued a notice to Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to appear on January 30, 2026 at 3 pm to record his statement.
- The current Congress government has accused the BRS administration of systemic snooping, alleging around 6,000 phones of judges, politicians, journalists and other eminent personalities were tapped during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government.
- Investigators have questioned the former Telangana intelligence chief and arrested four police officials since March 2024, including a suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Telangana Special Intelligence Bureau who was later granted bail.
- Assistant Commissioner of Police P. Venkatagiri's notice says K. Chandrashekar Rao is acquainted with facts and must be examined, and Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows his statement at Jubilee Hills Police Station or another Hyderabad location he specifies.
- This is the first time the SIT has summoned K. Chandrashekar Rao , following his 50-minute deposition before the PC Ghose Commission on June 11, 2025.
