SIR: Draft electoral rolls to be pubslihed on Aug. 24, over 1.07 crore voters set to be excluded

The revision removed 19.48% of voters, and officials said 43 lakh people will receive notices over anomalies or unmapped records.

  • On Monday, August 24, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka published draft electoral rolls, removing more than 1.07 crore voters categorized as Absent, Shifted, Duplicate, Dead, and Others .
  • The removals stem from the Special Intensive Revision , a process conducted across 16 states. Officials marked 65.4 lakh voters as permanently Shifted, while 12.3 lakh had Dead, 15.1 lakh were Absent, and 7 lakh were Duplicate entries.
  • Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukumar said notices will be sent to 43 lakh persons whose enumeration forms had anomalies. Voters can file claims and objections regarding these changes until September 23.
  • Bengaluru, with an electorate of over 1.03 crore, will see its rolls shrink to 56.11 lakh voters. Statewide, the names not included in the draft roll account for 19.4% of the electorate.
  • The notice phase and disposal of claims will continue until October 22, with the final electoral roll published on October 27. Concerns persist that the revision could eliminate genuine voters and shape electoral outcomes, as Scroll has reported.
