Singer Richard Ashcroft banned from driving after speeding on motorway
- On January 7, Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court disqualified Ashcroft from driving for six months and ordered him to pay nearly 3,000.
- Ashcroft was recorded exceeding the limit on February 19, 2025, driving a green 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class at 48mph on the M4 motorway at Brentford; his lawyer Conall Bailie said he pleaded guilty but missed the hearing due to an unchangeable commitment.
- District Judge Daniel Benjamin criticised Ashcroft for not attending, and DJ Benjamin added, `The purpose of those penalty points is to enable a person to decide to change` .
- Having totted up earlier offences, Richard Ashcroft already had nine relevant points from three previous speeding offences between December 16 2022 and October 21 2024, and the court added a further three points.
- A noted musician, Ashcroft fronted The Verve before launching a solo career with seven albums, including Lovin' You released October last year; he recently supported Oasis on their 2025 reunion tour.
