Teams approved a revised weekend format that adds a Friday sprint qualifying session and gives all riders a second qualifying shootout.
- On Wednesday, MotoGP confirmed a new 2027 weekend format featuring a dedicated qualifying session for the sprint race, a development first revealed by Autosport during the Austrian Grand Prix.
- Teams approved the reform in a vote at the Red Bull Ring; since sprint races arrived in 2023, a single Saturday session set both grids, but the new structure separates these.
- Friday track action will include a 45-minute practice, a 30-minute free practice, and a 15-minute sprint qualifying, replacing the previous practice session used to determine Q2 progression.
- Saturday morning features a 20-minute FP3 followed by knockout Q1-Q2 qualifying for the Grand Prix, while the Sunday morning warm-up has been dropped to allow riders promotional activities.
- Riders will gain a 10-minute pitlane window for sighting laps before the race, replacing the warm-up; three-and-a-half seasons after sprint introduction, teams and fans must adapt to this evolving dynamic.
