- Yates said in a team statement `This may come as a surprise to many, but it is not a decision I have made lightly` and he had been considering retirement for a long time.
- Yates's record shows he won the 2018 Vuelta a España and Giro last May, plus three Tour, six Giro, and two Vuelta stage wins, totaling 36 victories.
- Visma's head of racing Grischa Niermann paid tribute, saying `That was one of the major goals of the season, for us as a team and for Simon personally,` as Yates departs with one year left on his contract.
- His record includes both setbacks and comebacks, including a four-month ban in 2016 after the Paris–Nice terbutaline test and redemption on the Colle delle Finestre climb in 2025.
