Canada's Simon Fraser University Wins World Pipe Band Championship in Scotland
The Canadian band ended a 17-year wait for the title and outplayed 211 bands from 14 countries, organizers said.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band won the 2026 World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green, ending a 17-year championship drought.
A total of 211 bands from 14 nations gathered at the event, entertaining 35,000 spectators across two memorable days in Glasgow.
Led by Pipe Major Alan Bevan, the band delivered a "top-class performance," becoming the first non-UK group to claim the title since 2010.
The Field Marshal Montgomery band placed second, while Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association chief executive Colin Mulhern described the event as a "truly thrilling and fiercely contested competition."
In the juvenile section, George Watson's College won for the second year running, while tickets for the 2027 World Pipe Band Championships go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026.
