In Sierra Leone, civil society is concerned about the country's image after the record seizure of cocaine off the Canary Islands. On 1 May, the Spanish authorities intercepted a cargo ship carrying up to 30 tons of cocaine, a case potentially linked according to several media reports to the Dutch drug dealer Jos Leijdekkers. The intercepted cargo had left Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.
