Shortening the unemployment benefit may help to get extra people to work, but the effect is “limited”, the Central Planning Bureau (CPB) has calculated. A cabinet plan with such a measure was recently postponed after strong criticism from the unions and several opposition parties.
Reducing unemployment benefits does not lead to significant employment growth. According to the Central Planning Bureau, an additional eight thousand people will continue working. The bureau calls this effect ‘limited’.
