2 shot, 1 dead, at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, suspect at large
ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO, JUL 25 – Suspect arrested after fatal shooting at UNM dorm during new student orientation; one victim died and another was injured but is expected to survive, officials said.
- On Friday, July 25, 54-year-old Dominic Polidori poured gasoline on his wife and threatened to set her and their Newfield home on fire before barricading himself inside.
- The incident occurred after Polidori's wife applied for a restraining order that was not served prior to the attack, prompting police and SWAT involvement.
- Authorities shut off power to about 300 homes and gas to 25 nearby residences due to hazardous material concerns while negotiating Polidori's surrender around 12:15 p.m.
- Authorities have charged Polidori with attempted murder and making terroristic threats; he is currently being held at Salem County Correctional Institute.
- Following the standoff, utility services and road closures in the area were restored, ending the immediate danger to the community.
